The Black Baa Baas was formed in September 1994 by a group of Old
Rugbeians, who wanted to play Rugby together as a team after university.
The ethos of the team was to epitomise the true amateur spirit of
the game and run a nomadic side that can draw players from a large
pool, eliminating the pressure of constant playing for those who
have other commitments.
Though the club is now in its 9th season and is a member of the
RFU we do not play in a league. Our standard of rugby is high and
competitive, though the emphasis is on enjoyment. With the decline
of the number of teams the professional clubs put out and increasing
work commitments of many who want to play our membership is growing
with more players wanting to play rugby on their own terms, which
they can do with us.
We play touch in Battersea Park as a way of training and although
it is heavily encouraged, it is not obligatory. We are currently
sponsored by the Legless Tup Pub on Waterford Road in Fulham, which
also acts as a convivial club house. Subscription is currently £40
per annum and there are match fees of £4 per game. We are
always looking to strengthen our squad, if you are interested please
