On a crisp sunny January afternoon, the undefeated Baa Baas took to the field to face the local H&F side. After a 78 - 0 win in 2000 against the H&F III XV, we faced their not so daunting 2nds. With a spring in their step and alcohol flowing through most of the team's veins, the BBB's started strongly for the first time in 4 games, with the pack generating some good ball for Aird at scrum half, supplying a new combination of 'silky boot' Dunstan at fly half and 'hard hitting' Smith at centre, who returns from injury. Even out of his scrum half position, Dunstan provided a good base for his centres Smith and Penn allowing them to carve through the opposition.

Other returns to the field were the Romer-Lee brothers and even after a few months of maternity leave for Ben, most of the team were uncertain about the power and pace that the man could bring to the BBB forwards. It was pleasing that he hadn't forgotten any of his support-play skills and dominated in every area with the ever powerful Cavalli. Penn, who has obviously been putting some extra hours of fitness into his standard weekly team training, was fast and dynamic, putting in the biggest hits of the day and scoring 2 powerful tries. Another fitness fanatic, prop Mark 'lost lots of weight' Abraham's spurred aggressive charges from the front with the help of Simpson with some excellent textbook forward moves.

Big Dan returned to the second row position making a dent in the oppositions defence with a lovely run up the left wing, but just before the line he unselfishly unleashed the ball to the supporting Penn and the ball was knocked on. Was it the passer or the receiver in error? Beers for both players after the game was called for. In the last 20 minutes H&R came back at the triumphant Baa Baas, but the BBB's held the pressure of the larger H&R pack and the swift cover from Crichton at full back made the BBB defence impregnable. Overall a good performance from the start with some lovely individual play, but the BBB's need to keep up the pressure all the way through the match. Possibly more fitness required at training.
