After Old Reedonians cried off from what was billed to be one of our hardest, if not the hardest match of the season, Richard got us a fixture via the exchange with Streatham & Croydon I. S & C was where the Baa Baas existence began back in 1994 and in that game the first ever points scored for us was by Richard himself! A grim looking wet day was the scene at S&C but the pitch was in very good nick. This was probably the best pitch we would play on in the season so we did not want to disappoint the crowd of 3 that had gathered. The conditions made handling difficult but we made up for that fact by making fewer handling errors than we did last week in the dry! Percentagewise we had the better of the half and Roly put us ahead by diving over late on with Damo converting. The approach work had been styled by good Baa Baas forward play and a good deal of kicking into space behind the oppo. A frustrated Samuel paced the touch line throughout - a back injury sidelining this lightening winger. Jules was called into action though when Ant Cav was cut by a punch from S&C and we brought to good use the medical kit! The second half proved more fruitful with tries for Johnston, Maltwood & Penn. Tactical substitutions and dryer conditions allowed us to play a more expansive game with Damo & Jonners rounding off good moves started from within our half. Roger Smith put in some good hits - his new padding giving him some fresh confidence! Tackle of the day came from the rather unfit Lardy (his own admission!) who stopped dead in his tracks the marauding S&C no:6 who was causing us some difficulty in stopping him! Ant & Harvey proved invaluable in the backrow, Roly was his usual pain in the "oppositions arse" (and this time in the referee's arse !) and big John Markey continues to make the transition from American football to rugby union. A welcome return to the fray to a lean and nearly fit Jim Davidson who even enquired about how to warm down! We are getting serious Jim!! To finish I cannot forget to mention the ref. He ran the game well and rightly penalised a few Baa Baas who were trying to tell him how to ref the game! Moment of the day though was when he gave a penalty against us for Roly being "facetious"! I have heard it all now ....
