A magnificent performance was staged by the
Black Baa Baas playing against
the Old Pauliansins on Saturday. The Baa Baa's were rampant throughout
the
match, with 8 tries scored in all, 2 in the first half, and a six
try haul in the second.
Pauline's offered some early resistance and were quickly lulled
into a false sense of security when fullback Lachy revealed complete
ignorance of the rules after a magnificent run, slamming the ball
down American Football style to complete a touchdown?
However the sublime skill that had been shown leading up to this
play by Lachy and fellow Baa Baas showed a glimpse of what was yet
to come.
Following good lead up work by both backs & forwards, explosive
Johnnie Ellis seized an opportunity to hit the ball at pace from
a quick tap and went over.
Explosive Jonnie assisted in the next try with omnipresent Ant
Cavallini 'going in for one after some good harassing work by Jonnie,
turning over their ball, and (Ant) popped in from an awesome 2 yards'.
Juggernaut Jules Samuel had by this stage found his boots and added
the points for a 12 - ? lead at half time.
The second half commenced with a terrific Tom Brown try within
1 minute of
re-start. A fine two handed take by the forwards set quick ball
for dynamic
Dylan Harper to burst onto and link with his outside backs for a
seamless try in the corner. Brown later stated 'For a first touch
of the game I was quite chuffed'. Not bad for a first touch - but
- there was more to come.
Both terrific Tom and dynamic Dylan were ever present for the remainder,
not to forget seamless Steve Jackson who suggested he "was
brilliant and although I ably assisted several tries was unselfish
enough not to score one myself - quite
obviously a contender for man-of-the-match (!) In other words i
did F.A".
Mighty Mark de St Croix was the perfect link between the surpurbely
drilled
forward pack to the slick and silky? backs. As Mark reminices the
next try
came from "a blindside move executed perfectly, through the
hands of Lachy,
Jules and then to Dylan who sped up the wing, drew his man with
true All
Black's class and popped inside to his scrum half who sped half
the length
of the pitch to touchdown under the posts".
As always Mario Tuffery and heroic Hamish Gardiner led with venom
in the
forwards, with their Botswanian cousin Dave along side after a long
layoff
with injury. The injection of Lardy in the second half also provided
strong
drive and an interesting aroma.
Andy O'Loughlin was assisted to two magnificent tries, one of which
was
apparently in slow motion, which made it all the more impressive.
Scoring Juggernaut Jules completed the scoring route by converted
6 of the 8
tries...impressive considering the wind was according to Samuels
"stronger
than the fetid smell of a Mumbai whorehouse in high summer".
Apparently
Hippo told him so.
Old Pauline's can not be forgotten by contributing to this masterpiece
with
some useful angry big guys up front and some other guys in the backs.
In all rugby was the winner on the day, it was a game of two half's
and we
would like to thank the ladies for the magnificent afternoon tea.
More importantly a jolly good evening was had by all at the Legless
Tup
Tavern, with more nudity being prevalent for the second week in
succession.
On last report only Jim Brownlie and his apprentice Hippo Hall pulled
any of
the young lovelies on display... although Ulli had a lucky escape.
