Chobham II were a big, physical outfit
who appeared to be well drilled. However the Black Baa Baas seemed
to be troubled by the referee more than the opposition. Simon Slee
was picked out first for the Refs treatment, feeling a touch left
out Richard Little tried desperately to get the refs full wrath.
Acknowledging fairly soon on that despite they're size they weren't
going to trouble us too much, Trevor bulldozed his way over the
Chobham try line to score our first try which was to be converted.
In the second half Haydn made a three yard dash from the base of
a ruck to go over in the corner for the second try.
Things were looking rosy when Chobham mounted a full on assault
and crept back up the score board and overtook us. Roger Smith answered
this as the human ping pong ball scored a terrific try with a solo
effort. The Black Baa Baas were trailing 7 points right up to the
final minute when Steve Jackson went over the Chobham line and had
the foresight to touch the ball down close to the posts. The whole
match now rested on the final conversion; Jules Samuel calmly addressed
the ball and whilst the ball did hover over the T-bar for few agonising
moments it eventually went through to draw the match. This won't
go down as one of the Black Baa Baas finest performances but we
were happy to walk away with a draw.
